Ask Dr. Swingle! The Importance of the Micro-Chip

One very cold and snowy Sunday morning as I was leaving church, two ladies brought me a very cute and very cold Australian Shepherd puppy they had found wandering in the church parking lot. The ladies had already canvassed the neighborhood looking for the puppy’s home to no avail. Luckily Frankie’s owners had requested that their veterinarian place a microchip under Frankie’s skin. I was able to scan Frankie’s back, identify the microchip number, call the microchip registry company, and obtain Frankie’s contact information. This allowed me to contact Frankie’s parents and return Frankie to his home.

It was great to participate in a story with such a happy ending. Had Frankie not been micro-chipped, the story’s ending might not have been so happy. Many pets are lost every year and never find their way back to their homes. We recommend you protect all your pets by having them micro-chipped. If they are ever lost or stolen, hopefully your pets can have a happy ending like Frankie did. Please contact your veterinarian and schedule to have your pets micro-chipped today.
