Carpenter St. Croix Valley Nature Center Background Information
Carpenter St. Croix Valley Nature Center (CNC) is a private, 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit environmental education facility open to the public for hiking, learning and enjoying nature. Located in the heart of the scenic St. Croix River Valley, the Nature Center was made possible by a private, not-for-profit operating foundation that managed the property and estate of donors Tom and Edna Carpenter. The foundation, established in 1969, made the Carpenter estate a public-use facility, and in August 1981, Carpenter Nature Center opened its doors for its first public program. Interest in the Nature Center has steadily increased over the years, with a current annual visitation of 20,000-30,000 individuals of all ages, races and income levels. Drop-in visitors pay no admission and can visit the Visitor Center, Interpretive Building and self-guided trail system on our Hastings, Minnesota Campus seven days a week from 8:00am – 4:30pm. The trails on our Hudson, Wisconsin Campus are open to the public for hiking from sunrise to sunset seven days a week. Professionally staffed environmental programs are offered to private and public groups at both our locations for a low fee.
